"All Who are Weary... Rest in Jesus!" - Matthew 11 Blog

Today’s Time Alone With God (TAWG) included a great reading in Matthew 11. One section of scripture screamed out to my very loudly and that was this, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) Such an amazing scripture that paints such a beautiful picture of who the Lord is to me. He is our shepherd who protects us and nurtures us.

We live in a world that seems to get louder and busier with each new day. It seems like each day can tend to bring its stresses our way and often time’s life circumstances can overwhelm us too. In today’s world, so many people are screaming/begging for attention and validation from other people. If you don’t agree with me on that last sentence, all I need to say is Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and now reality kicks in as you remember how much a “like”, “share”, & “comment” on a post means to people. People tend to let a social media post effect their life in such a massive way as they are seeking the validation of not only people that they actually know in life, but also from people that live across the world. One post doesn’t do so well, so now it needs to be deleted so that no one notices that they have a post that didn’t do so well. Now, the next one will be a post in lingerie or underwear or implied nudity, as that one will surely reap the “likes”, “comments”, and “shares” that are desired. If that doesn’t work, then getting even more risqué might be work even better? If that doesn’t work, then perhaps buying the “likes” and “comments” is the direction that needs to be taken?

Please understand that I say all of that, not to dis on anyone, or to even ask anyone to change… you, do you. I say all of that because I serve a God (Jesus Christ) that tells me that I am more than enough and he loves, cares, and validates me right where am. He fulfills me with all of the “likes”, “comments” and “shares” that I could ever want as that fulfillment exists in His loving embrace. The Lord wants YOU to come to Him, right now, just as YOU are. That means that you don’t need to try to fix your flaws or any sin that you might be living in, but rather, just come to Him as you are right now so that He can begin to love you and embrace you. Down the road, as you truly get to know Him through prayer and His Word, He will work with you to help you to fix those flaws and struggles. Working on these things with Him is such a beautiful and amazing experience. He is a patient and loving God that actually understands you better than you understand yourself (He formed/created you in your mother’s womb). So trust Him, and begin that journey of a loving relationship with Him today.

No matter where YOU are in life, Jesus says to YOU, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30). This is an invitation that simply should not be passed up my friends. The creator of Heaven and Earth is saying to YOU, that no matter what you are going through, no matter where you are in life at this moment, “Come to me, … and I will give you rest”. Perhaps you are: Struggling in your marriage/relationship? Struggling with you finances? Struggling with an illness? Struggling in your school studies? Struggling with the death of a loved one? Struggling with being picked on or bullied? Struggling with a sin of some kind? The Lords response to you is, “Come to me, … and I will give you rest”. He wants you to discuss these things with Him in prayer and He wants to speak to you or guide you to the solution to your problem (He knows EVERYTHING). He wants to be yoked with you, to teach you and help you to carry that load. He says, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light”… you were not meant to take these loads on by yourself. Let God reveal to you if you are even supposed to be carrying some of these loads at all. James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Whether you are a Christ follower (Christian) or not, perhaps now is the time to consider finding rest in the Lord through Matthew 11:28-30, and to ask God for wisdom as James 1:5 tells us to do. There is no time like the present my friends, and I can promise you that resting/trusting in the Lord is the best thing that you could ever do in your life. He created YOU, He loves YOU, and He has all the answers and love that you could ever want.
