Keep Watch, Jesus WILL Return - Matthew 24 Blog

Just spent some time reading in Matthew 24 during my Time Alone With God (TAWG), and this chapter really focuses on some of the signs of the end times. It can also really get you thinking about the importance of always being in tune with Jesus and being ready for the end of times. Let’s dive in a bit deeper by taking a look at some of the scriptures that stood out to me.

This chapter mentions that in the end times all kinds of disasters/destruction will happen and many will claim to be the Messiah. It goes on to say, “Then you (Followers of Christ) will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:9-14)

After reading all of that, I ask myself how I can apply what I have read to my life. Those scriptures remind me of the importance of having a STRONG and REAL personal relationship with Jesus. It is so important for me to be in prayer daily and in God’s Word daily in order to continue to grow in my relationship with Jesus. When my relationship with Jesus is truly STRONG, that’s when I can hear/recognize the voice of my Shepherd, and another voice I will not follow, as it talks about in John 10. I will only know/hear/recognize the voice of the Lord if I am spending daily time with Him in prayer and in His Word. When I know His voice/character, I am less likely to be fooled by false prophets/messiahs, this world, and the enemy in general.

Later in the chapter it says, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. (Matthew 24:42) It is so important that we are ALWAYS prepared for the Lord’s coming. If we notice that we are straying to the right or the left and falling into some sort of sin, we must repent and get back on track right away. That is why having accountability partners and mentors is so important too, because they will notice if you slipping off on the wrong path. They will ask you the tough questions and help you to get back on track. We must always remember that “Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life” (John 14:6), and all purpose and fulfillment comes from Him. Don’t let them enemy get the best of you by drawing you away with cheese (sin) and getting you stuck in his mouse trap (lifestyle of sin). Being stuck in that trap will only bring you continuous pain, your hunger and thirst will never be fulfilled, because our true fulfillment is in Jesus.

In conclusion, if your life is not 100% on track with Jesus, than RIGHT NOW is the time to say a prayer and get back on track with Jesus, DON’T waste another beat. Make the choice to get back on track with Him and be in His Word and prayer daily so that you are constantly growing in your relationship with Him. Furthermore, if you don’t have active accountability partners and mentors, I encourage you to seek them out today, as this will help you to avoid sin and stay on track in your growth in Jesus. ;-) Thank you so much for reading today’s blog! Be sure to come back next Wednesday, 7/31/19 to catch my TAWG Blog on Matthew 25. :)
