'Faith + Persistence = Victory' - Matthew 20 (Part 2)
Today’s blog is Part 2 in a 2 part series of blogs on Matthew 20. If you haven’t read “Part 1 – A Lifestyle of Serving”, than be sure to give that one a read before reading this one. In today’s blog I want to share on the second section of scripture that stood out to me in Matthew 20. In that section we see the persistence of two blind men calling out to Jesus to get their healing.
Let’s begin by taking a look at that section of scripture, which can be found in Matthew 20:29-34. “As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’ The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’ Jesus stopped and called them. ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ he asked. ‘Lord,’ they answered, ‘we want our sight.’ Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.”
I love that these men knew what they wanted and they were persistent in getting it. They knew that Jesus was the solution to their problem and that He could easily bring them their healing. That’s why they ignored all of the haters around them that were rebuking them and telling them to be quiet. They were finally in the presence of Jesus and they refused to let that amazing opportunity go to waste. THEY WERE PERSISTENT IN WHAT THEY WANTED… AND, THEY GOT WHAT THEY WANTED.
Now the question is, how can we apply this section of scripture to our lives? Well, is there an area in your life that you desire Jesus to heal? Perhaps you have a physical illness that needs healing? Or, maybe you have an addiction that you just can’t seem to get your freedom from even though you have been trying so hard? Maybe you need the Lord to move in a relationship, your career, or your finances? Have you truly fallen to your knees and asked Jesus to “have mercy on you” and heal you in whatever that area is? Others around you might thing and even say that there is no hope for you in this area, but Jesus is the answer to your every need. His Word says, “Ask and it will be given to you” (Matthew 7:7). Cry out to Him and trust that He will answer in His good and perfect way in His good and perfect timing.
In conclusion, we are blessed to be in the presence of the Lord at ALL TIMES as His Holy Spirit dwells within us. That being said, we can ALWAYS cry out to Him for help and He in fact wants us to ask Him for help. Don’t let the enemy, anyone around you, or even you yourself, keep you from reaching out to your loving Father above for whatever it is that you truly need from Him. “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4). Be persistent and trust in the Lords good and perfect plan for you and your life.
