With God ALL Things Are Possible - Matthew 19 (Part 2)

Today’s blog is Part 2 in a 2 part series of blogs on Matthew 19. If you haven’t read “Part 1 – Be the Hands & Feet of Jesus”, than be sure to give that one a read before reading this one. In today’s blog I want to share on the section of scripture where Jesus says that “With God all things are possible.”

Let’s dive into the full context of this scripture, and then see how it might apply to our lives today. Jesus has a rich man ask Him the question, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” Jesus first tells this man that he must keep the 10 commandments. The man says that he has kept them all. The man then asks, “What do I still lack?” Jesus then tells him that he must sell all of his possessions, give them to the poor, and then come follow Him (Jesus). The man walks away sadly, because he can’t bring himself to do this. The disciples witnessed all of this and then asked Jesus, “Who then can be saved?” “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” (Matthew 19:26)

How did this section of scripture speak to me? Well, I clearly see here that this man was making money an Idol (putting it ahead of Jesus), and it is this very act that makes it difficult for this man to enter the kingdom of God. Money can be such an easy Idol for us to put ahead of our relationship with Jesus, but it certainly is not the only Idol. People (wife, kids, friends, and celebrities), comfort, careers, sports, hobbies, television shows, sin, addictions, and so much more, can all be Idols that we put ahead of Jesus. I feel like if I’ve gone through a whole day without spending time in prayer and in God’s Word, I’ve made everything in that day an Idol ahead of Jesus, because I was basically showing Jesus that my days activities were more important to me than spending time with Him. It can become so easy to let the day slip away and neglect spending time with Jesus as there are just so many distractions that want to come our way.

Jesus put us before His own self, by dying on the cross for our sins, and He now wants us to make Him first place in our lives. Nothing that you put ahead of Jesus will satisfy you in the beautiful and amazing way that Jesus can satisfy you. If you are putting Jesus first, He will make all things come together for you according to His good and perfect plan. He will take care of you the way He knows is best for your life, and trust me, He knows what is best for you… after all, He is the Beginning and the End, He created you in your mother’s womb, He laid that foundations of Heaven and Earth, He IS God!

In conclusion, when you are looking at the situations, addictions, sins, or anything in your life that seems impossible to overcome, remember what Jesus said in Matthew 19:26 “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Say that scripture to yourself over and over again until you truly believe it down in your innermost being. Then, press into the Lord in prayer asking Him for wisdom, guidance, direction, and strength. Seek His Word for all of that as well. You’ve got this! You are an overcomer! Victory is yours in Jesus name, because, “With God all things are possible.”
